During my family trip to the southwest U.S. in late 2005, I bought a small bag of these candies. These candies are sweet and tart with the authentic taste of prickly pears, and they sure taste great!

I've also tried the candies made by the more popular Cactus Candy Company, but I think that the ones by Desert Gatherings win in every way. The candies by Desert Gatherings are cheaper, have a better taste, and a more palatable texture. By comparison, the ones by the Cactus Candy Company are a bit too firm (too hard to cut if you don't plan to finish an entire piece in one sitting) and have a more generic taste.

However, consumers should be aware of the high sugar content. I estimate that each piece has about 14g of sugar. Buyers should also be aware that some packages may have inaccurate nutrition labels, as mine did.
