It is a reliable system that offers huge advantages for anyone in need of a reliable tracking system. The operator has a choice of listening to the signals through a speaker or headphones (included). A tree indicator (double beep) indicates when the dog is looking straight up. The system can track up to seven miles and the receiver provides 20 hours of continuous use. The handheld receiver operates on a 9-Volt Alkaline battery, which can easily be changed in the field. The receiver features a low battery indicator, and for night viewing it has a back lit display controlled by a simple on off switch. The lightweight collar features a thin flexible antenna so it is almost snag free. It is powered by a 3-Volt Lithium battery that provides for approximately 200 hours of continuous use, and is also easily replaced in the field. Each individual collar can easily be programmed in the field to one of up to 16 different channels on one of 4 different bands. With up to 64 channels choices to select from, you get virtually guaranteed interference tracking. The RD-400 ships with two collars, but additional collars are available.
